April '17 Student of the Month
Posted by Patricia Story on
We'd like to congratulate our student of the month for April, Joshua! He's currently a 6th grader at Trinity Christian School in Carbondale, Illinois. Joshua's love of music began at age four when he started playing piano. A few years later, he was given the opportunity to accompany violinists at recitals, which led to his desire to learn violin himself. He has played violin for almost four years, since June 2013, and is currently a first violinist in the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra and the assistant concertmaster of the Southern Illinois Civic Orchestra. He would like to give sincere thanks to his first violin teacher Mr. Ken Wollberg and his current violin teacher Professor Michael Barta from the School of Music at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Some of Joshua's favorite composers include Lalo, Bruch, Sarasate, Beethoven, and Wieniawski; he thinks they have written exciting, difficult music. Joshua says that because God has graciously given him many abilities and opportunities in music, he will keep pursuing it in the future. While he wants to remain a musician, he's also interested in studying engineering, law, medicine, and more some day. His current hobbies include math, science, chess, computer games, and figure skating.
Congratulations, Joshua! Good luck in your future musical endeavors, and keep up the great work!
