March '17 Student of the Month

Posted by Patricia Story on

Matthew Heath, our March student of the month, is in the 8th grade at St. Mary Middle School and plays in both St. Mary Advanced and the Middle School Orchestras. He has played violin for 4 years, starting with private lessons then coming to the orchestras. Matthew has taken piano lessons in the past and he also plays on the St. Mary baseball team.

He enjoys violin/orchestra because of the skills it teaches, for example “not to be lazy” and because the music makes him feel good. Orchestra is his favorite way to spend class time because there’s not much writing, memorizing and reading other than all the music he learns. He says it’s “his place to chill”.

Rock music on the violin is Matthew’s favorite type of music right now. For example, he is enjoying playing “Stairway To Heaven” and thinks it would be extra fun if he could play it on an electric violin. He likes performing in the orchestra at the St. Mary Dinner Theater. He also likes the trips the orchestras take, his favorite being when they went to a Cards game last year.

As for the future, Matthew would like to “play violin forever” and would like to be a professional violinist, but he also has his sights on being an electrical engineer.

We’re proud of you, Matthew. Keep up your great work!
